(4/23/05 - 4/25/05)
My cousin Chip came into town for a conference, and he showed up the weekend before to hang out and see some bay area sites. Below are some pictures. Click on any picture for a larger version.
Taken from the "Cliff House" in San Francisco, that's Chip in the red sweatshirt. Use the horizontal scrollbar to pan to see the whole thing.
Across the Golden Gate in the Marin Headlands looking down at the Golden Gate.
In Sausalito, at "Scoma's" which is a restaurant with great views of the bay.
The view from Scoma's from our table. That's Alcatraz in the center of the picture, and San Francisco on the right.
From outside of Scoma's, a picture pointed towards San Francisco in the distance.
The next day (4/24/05) we took a drive south to Monterey and Big Sur. Here is a picture taken in Monterey.
These divers were everywhere.
A drive through "17 mile drive" which is through the Pebble Beach golf course. This tree is called the "Lone Cypress" and is the logo for the Pebble Beach golf course. If you click on this photo you can read the plaque. It says the Lone Cypress is 250 years old.
A closer view of the Lone Cypress. If you look closely you can see ropes holding it in place.
A little further down the Big Sure coast, that is Chip in the foreground taking a picture.
Here without Chip in the foreground.
We stopped at Nepenthe for a late lunch. Nepenthe is a restaurant perched on the Big Sur coast. If there is no fog, the views are spectacular. Pan to the right to see the whole photo from the deck.
A picture taken from inside Nepenthe showing the views.
South of Lucia is a road that leads east (inland) called Nacimiento-Fergusson Road. It leads to Fort Hunter Liggett. It climbs away from the coastline on switchbacks. This is a picture half way up it of the Big Sur coast. That's Chip on the left taking another photo.
This is a sign by the side of the road just south of Monterey saying "Pig Crossing". Chip and I were scouting for pig hunting areas on this trip, and this is the closest we got. :-)
The sun going down in sunset south of Monterey, driving north from Big Sur on Highway 1.
