This activity will help you deepen your understanding of how words relate to one another in meaning and how their features shape language use. By analyzing lexical relations (such as synonymy, antonymy, and hyponymy) and semantic features, you'll explore how meaning is structured in the mental lexicon.

Learning objective: 

To analyze lexical relations and semantic features by synthesizing key concepts from specialized reference material.

Instructions: 

1. Read and take notes from the following article:

    An Introduction to Language. Ch 3 pp. 153 - 163

2. Research additional information from reliable sources to strengthen your understanding from the topic.

3. Based on the collected information, create a concept map about that includes:

    One branch for Lexical Relations

    One branch for Semantic Features

4. Under the Lexical Relations branch, include at least five types of lexical relations. For each one:

    Write the name of the relation.

    Add one clear example.

5. Under the Semantic Features branch, include, at least three examples of semantic feature combinations:

    A short explanation if needed to clarify the use of features.
