In this activity, you will explore the core subfields of Linguistics to better understand how they contribute to language learning and teaching.

Learning objective: 

To identify the subfields of linguistics by reflecting on their relevance in language teaching.

Instructions: 

1. Watch the video: What is Linguistics? - Introduction to Linguistics

2. Then, read and take notes from the following article:

    The Study of Language.

3. Research additional information from reliable sources to strengthen your understanding from the topic.

4. Based on the collected information, create a concept map about the subfields of Linguistics.

    Each subfield should be clearly labeled and connected to the central concept ("Linguistics").
    Include brief descriptions or keywords under each subfield to explain its focus.

5. Write a 2–3 paragraph conclusion below or next to your map. In your reflection, explain:

    How the different subfields of Linguistics contribute to English language teaching.
    Why understanding these areas is important for English teachers.
