A learning objective describes what a student should be able to do by the end of a course. It will help students to know what to expect and how they should progress.

Learning objective:

To explain the formulation of learning objectives by making a concept map with the idea of clarifying terms related to a proper curriculum design and its importance when teaching English.

Instructions:

1. Read and take notes from the following article:

    Learning objectives

2. Research additional information from reliable sources to strengthen your understanding from the topic.

3. Take notes on the key ideas from the reading, focusing especially on:

    The definition of learning objectives.
The types of learning objectives (e.g., cognitive, affective, psychomotor).
The components of a well-written learning objective (e.g., audience, behavior, condition, degree).
The importance of aligning objectives with curriculum and assessment.

4. Review your notes and group the information into categories (e.g., types, purpose, formulation).

5. Select a tool to design your concept map (e.g., Canva, MindMeister, Lucidchart, Miro).

6. Create your concept map using the following structure:

Start with the main idea at the center: “Learning Objectives.”
Add branches for key aspects such as: definition, purpose, types, structure, examples, and role in teaching.
Use connecting phrases to show relationships (e.g., “helps to,” “includes,” “based on”).

7. Write a short personal reflection (80–100 words) explaining why learning objectives are essential in curriculum design, how they help guide both teaching and learning, and how they contribute to the effectiveness of English language instruction. Be sure to include your own perspective and connect it to the importance of clearly defined objectives in the teaching process.

8. Save both your concept map and your reflection, and upload them to the task mailbox.
